Leapfrog's Scout and Violet
 (and the day Violet learned Spanish)

One of the most popular toys out there for infants is very likely to be leapfrog’s my pal Scout (for boys) or my pal Violet (for girls). It comes with a usb cable for you to personalize with your child’s name, favorite things and songs. The only problem about that beautiful toy: It speaks English!

So here I am, trying to keep my children away from any toy that will speak English to them, trying to immerse them in the Spanish language  and cute little Violet becomes my daughter’s favorite toy. After some time exploring options, I ended up visiting the Mexican based website for leapfrog and ta-da! I found the link to leapfrog connect in Spanish (www.leapfrog.com/conectar) . The page will ask that you download leapfrog connect (if you already have it installed in your computer, you might have the English version). Since I already had it installed, I followed the prompts to uninstall the English version and download the Spanish version instead. Once installed, I was able to program songs in Spanish, my child’s favorite things but not her name since there was not an accurate pronunciation for it. Keep in mind that this toy, if you bought it in the USA, comes pre-programmed in English. It will say things like “I love you _____” or “My favorite color is ______” and fill in the blanks with the information you programmed in leapfrog connect.

I can’t say it’s perfect but it works, my newly programmed Violet sings in Spanish, it still tells my child “My favorite fruit is Fresas” and “My favorite animal is un perro” but I guess I can’t complain, I wanted Violet to speak Spanish and she does. (please note that if you installed leapfrog in Spanish and later uninstall it to the English version, when you connect Violet or Scout they will lose all the Spanish data)
